It even has an entire floor full of creepy mannequins. The building is a huge warehouse jam packed with old fixtures, jewelry cases - even hangers.<br />
<br />
There wasn't a whole lot of old advertising but I did find some hard styrofoam letters. Thank god Amanda plays Words with friends because there was just a jumble of letters I didn't know what to do with. She came up with "Loco", which is pretty appropriate I'd say. With a bit of work, I thought it would look pretty awesome hanging above a doorway.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqksI0s_qD0NJRO4cjL6bFuG1SUiH75FpkIM_XRH6_D4ZFETD-oQ52x3Dve0Cr_-Bu2J9dftSNpubXSyGNuH_Yn-S16Qm1vLSIFcDT5wl_72RoCEJK_wR-HgIQ4RhtyadxOOtz0-RFMDPT/s1600/101_0230.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqksI0s_qD0NJRO4cjL6bFuG1SUiH75FpkIM_XRH6_D4ZFETD-oQ52x3Dve0Cr_-Bu2J9dftSNpubXSyGNuH_Yn-S16Qm1vLSIFcDT5wl_72RoCEJK_wR-HgIQ4RhtyadxOOtz0-RFMDPT/s320/101_0230.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">So we spray painted. Right on our unruly lawn. The letters were originally orange, so we spray painted the front side blue. I was originally going to paint the whole piece blue, but it looked so awesome with just one side painted and the orange poking out.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">For $2 a piece, I'd say they look pretty great.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT8uXz0jhg_MArNrA8yaUMCHxr_XscP4rQVL5Cu6hwxM0NJM7YMztuSWvSLuGw_z6xKQMCeDMTRWaLxAh1gCj2AnBAl3W55QE3dI7Suzu4TcXUpnb1-tURSBTF9nNlURf7ZEmkI7L-xPHx/s1600/101_0237.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT8uXz0jhg_MArNrA8yaUMCHxr_XscP4rQVL5Cu6hwxM0NJM7YMztuSWvSLuGw_z6xKQMCeDMTRWaLxAh1gCj2AnBAl3W55QE3dI7Suzu4TcXUpnb1-tURSBTF9nNlURf7ZEmkI7L-xPHx/s320/101_0237.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Even better when not surrounded by unmanicured grass.</div><br />

We're not exactly sure why this happens but it could be caused by our lack of desire to actually purchase furniture. In fact I can't think of a single piece of furniture in our home that wasn't given to us or purchased at Goodwill. It's hard being broke. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">But by God if we're going to be broke we're at least going to try and make it look like that's "what we were going for". </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So instead of spending hundreds to make new stuff look old, we just take other people's trash and hope for the best. Our friend is moving across the country and couldn't takes these beauts with him.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNlyPsPU4MZVagzdDHPEHfJfAdf58s-1hQQeFl2I7DbZv3GaAQv9rwYc_zxTf8l0-nq4gIyFdgzhHok0pygciqlLO6tJiGUTCAf-CwB8FfJ1ettloioT7Q8x11tIHDHrBwBlYyccOSGeYx/s320/101_0029.JPG" width="240" /> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Please note the scratchy, burnt orange fabric. This is the kind of fabric that still makes you itch even if you are wearing jeans. The itch seeps through that much.</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiGm7E9EwRdu45ZpcA41Eu7ttNrjezSUtSiIBKborAtukt-8u4I9dwpXrJ0-TvkjBcXEW2nhH9SFYx2ziTVm59IoWivnd_I835YBMRZMjZLylY-c8Ea_9V2zXN6v8eDb7MywU0FSivXSAg/s1600/101_0034.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiGm7E9EwRdu45ZpcA41Eu7ttNrjezSUtSiIBKborAtukt-8u4I9dwpXrJ0-TvkjBcXEW2nhH9SFYx2ziTVm59IoWivnd_I835YBMRZMjZLylY-c8Ea_9V2zXN6v8eDb7MywU0FSivXSAg/s320/101_0034.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">When our friend gave them to us he told us that these chairs were his father's and said that he would "be rolling in his grave if he knew we were breaking up the set". It's good to know the chairs came from someone who loved them. Even if there are holes in them.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghNP5-f8w7gyqqfeB15S2ntiIFH4_QI_jsk7QIRPFwEP-D94waW2ZQj2ik41XuRjEDlCRFcx0KgkPT7s6ocDcUIu6JdNnP9fTQ9CxYzPtrgWP9wrILpizmej1fcJAu83Nfi_C5UxW1rq1D/s1600/101_0036.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghNP5-f8w7gyqqfeB15S2ntiIFH4_QI_jsk7QIRPFwEP-D94waW2ZQj2ik41XuRjEDlCRFcx0KgkPT7s6ocDcUIu6JdNnP9fTQ9CxYzPtrgWP9wrILpizmej1fcJAu83Nfi_C5UxW1rq1D/s320/101_0036.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">After reading about a paragraph on the internet about how to reupholster a chair I told myself that I could do this. Most of the time that doesn't turn out so well. Thankfully, this disembodied hand showed up to help. It did a hell of a job with the stapling. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoF7vGVBzMPNjlzZEfRpnUJ2xq59qRAo-f5sxM0yq9sCIRm9wLPDyFR8X54YmrrTTSI8WiYsTN4t7Jtc2ILjnvk6UpuzzHwk497Ig2l6bf7t9EiNaFmFknQjtDkrE4qSdsPKx7R3CWVFIB/s1600/101_0071.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoF7vGVBzMPNjlzZEfRpnUJ2xq59qRAo-f5sxM0yq9sCIRm9wLPDyFR8X54YmrrTTSI8WiYsTN4t7Jtc2ILjnvk6UpuzzHwk497Ig2l6bf7t9EiNaFmFknQjtDkrE4qSdsPKx7R3CWVFIB/s320/101_0071.JPG" width="240" /></a> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Every wall in our house is beige. To counteract this our landlords painted the wood floors mint green.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQyH-d_3QrrA2-9G6X1ZWVUJwkjiFjBCeI-jOsDnYoYPz4HIipT-yqecZeiVx96RbwI4XY9pMT_z4wKwtmZPUiNboALT9wt_agCUqt6aV5oFEqExt11A-4KvUSN49zh_pt9lAF-h_qHo0T/s1600/101_0039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQyH-d_3QrrA2-9G6X1ZWVUJwkjiFjBCeI-jOsDnYoYPz4HIipT-yqecZeiVx96RbwI4XY9pMT_z4wKwtmZPUiNboALT9wt_agCUqt6aV5oFEqExt11A-4KvUSN49zh_pt9lAF-h_qHo0T/s320/101_0039.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">What the hell do you do with mint green floors?</div><div style="text-align: center;">The answer is nothing. There is absolutely nothing you can do to make mint green wood floors attractive. You can call them "rustic" or "quaint" but really they're just ugly.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8Z7mamrg8IiWgeMrEjhIGNSm-GkNH95467jkoybBFMAtY-2y86XqOtIdDiMfdwhcjSR5BdXSIBoTKTES5_swIF8eeqi2b2rdUSi0OjaoKAlOwfH1O4IHhil8NUDCwF0Uk0-nBJrQesifS/s1600/101_0042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8Z7mamrg8IiWgeMrEjhIGNSm-GkNH95467jkoybBFMAtY-2y86XqOtIdDiMfdwhcjSR5BdXSIBoTKTES5_swIF8eeqi2b2rdUSi0OjaoKAlOwfH1O4IHhil8NUDCwF0Uk0-nBJrQesifS/s320/101_0042.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">It's impossible to find anything to match. For some reason I felt like yellow might be a good choice. Amanda hates this fabric. That's fine because I think it looks great.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN8VzcLPpehCybMHhUAELCfcBKyX5TqhmKcZNafk4TarasXdRuDMJYMOO710BolxqsFdBHdMOrCbp9pd5ni_90oXvpDBKQe2cAsqfixJJFp6C3Q7yceHwtabVXx4LQCmdl2ma8ykq_IFfz/s1600/101_0079.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN8VzcLPpehCybMHhUAELCfcBKyX5TqhmKcZNafk4TarasXdRuDMJYMOO710BolxqsFdBHdMOrCbp9pd5ni_90oXvpDBKQe2cAsqfixJJFp6C3Q7yceHwtabVXx4LQCmdl2ma8ykq_IFfz/s320/101_0079.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Here is the finished product. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3LvQmQarHsA_wpayuOhZDdJ5CdM-KEo0t51Uf7nlafrLJGXJ1oNOw0AUbp0CtJVGpKiU4ZrDlFcAA2xE0qoCFi6RD1SV4CsOmH08joN_Iv7bk-LlnUInLL8-i9FGnYFAnQpO_dxXoE9Wv/s1600/101_0075.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3LvQmQarHsA_wpayuOhZDdJ5CdM-KEo0t51Uf7nlafrLJGXJ1oNOw0AUbp0CtJVGpKiU4ZrDlFcAA2xE0qoCFi6RD1SV4CsOmH08joN_Iv7bk-LlnUInLL8-i9FGnYFAnQpO_dxXoE9Wv/s320/101_0075.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">At least now we can eat dinner without wanting to tear our skin off right? I can only hope that in 30 years two broke twenty somethings discuss how terrible the fabric choice was and have an argument about what to reupholster them with.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Only old women need collars on their scarves. This is because they require the extra warmth of both shirt collars <i>and</i> scarf collars. If a person under the age of 75 were to wear two collars at the same time they would sweat to death. Fortunately for old people, this is physically impossible.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Seriously. <a href="http://anxietyknits.blogspot.com/">Amanda</a> and I have been talking about people's reactions when they find out that you're a knitter. They always want something from you, especially if they are having a baby. Lucky for my friends Eric and Chelsea I like them enough to knit for their baby without having to be asked.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I had some leftover sock yarn that I got for my birthday last year, the perfect amount for a tiny pair of socks. I used the <a href="http://www.jodigreen.ca/blog/archives/2006/12/merry_chex_mix.html">High energy baby booties</a> pattern that I found on Ravelry. It has a lovely picot edge that I love! Such a nice touch to add that extra bit of fanciness!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUQP_sAaSiMjFCCCcXFVZZ3NZI4r8hi2AE39xclTI_Oq-08wIUY3uGLGehhyphenhyphen27OQJwkBdj1NrvtjgT5vLmRUeu0gzlzevWga3PU7cnuyWQle3Dk0FmWB0mEFEESU2d3k3f8b54Gs-BeQHe/s1600/DSCN1184.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUQP_sAaSiMjFCCCcXFVZZ3NZI4r8hi2AE39xclTI_Oq-08wIUY3uGLGehhyphenhyphen27OQJwkBdj1NrvtjgT5vLmRUeu0gzlzevWga3PU7cnuyWQle3Dk0FmWB0mEFEESU2d3k3f8b54Gs-BeQHe/s320/DSCN1184.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;"> There are still a couple of months left before baby girl comes but these are ready now so that I can make more. I'm at the stage in my life where everyone is getting married and popping out a kid so I figure I should get a stash of baby items going. So if I like you enough expect some baby booties or possibly a hat.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

I graduated this weekend with a degree in Kinesiology! That means I have to change my blog tagline, this is pretty much the only negative thing that I can think of.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">There are a few things that I learned in college aside from how to write a 5 paper in an hour. I'll outline them below for those of you that are still in college or have graduated more than 5 years ago.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b>1) It is important to never get up and blow your nose during a test.</b> <b>The sound of snot being sucked deeper into your face stimulates your brain thus giving you a higher grade.</b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is VERY important, especially when you are in a large lecture class. When 10-20 people suck snot into their faces it becomes a "suck chorus". This has even been shown to increase the productivity of those around you. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b>2) Always bring another activity to entertain you during lecture. Examples include: Knitting, sudoku or a book.</b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I tend to think of sitting in class like sitting in an airport, you have to be there even though you won't be leaving for the next year and half. You may as well bring something to do otherwise you have to pay $29.99 for a Twilight novel.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b> </b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b>3) Chew gum as loudly as possible, especially if you are interested in attracting the opposite sex.</b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> I'm not even going to be sarcastic about this. I have seen more conversations happen by the pick up line "Hey can I have some of that gum you're chewing" then I care to think about.<b> </b>What they really mean to say is "You're chewing your gum in a manner that is similar to a cow chewing its cud. I find that attractive because I too enjoy chewing my gum in this manner. Let's have sex."</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b>4) Always pretend you aren't interested and have some place better to be, even if you are genuinely interested.</b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Warning: This one only applies if you want friends.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b>5) Never arrive on time</b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This lets everyone in the class know that you are too cool to arrive on time. The later the better. It is important to make as much noise as possible when entering the classroom. Always choose a seat in the middle of everyone so you have to crawl over them. This ensures that all the attention will be on you.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now you don't even need to go to college!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Updates soon on what I am actually making, and not just complaining about. It will be great!<b> </b> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b> </b> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b> </b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I have the first full project I ever completed -which is the Ribbed for Her Pleasure Scarf out of the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Stitch-N-Bitch-Knitters-Handbook/dp/0761128182">Stich 'N Bitch</a> book, but I don't have the first swatch I ever knit. I envy those of you that do.<br />
<br />
One of the earlier projects that I ever knit without a pattern became a beloved (or hated depending on who you ask) icon for the Women's Ultimate Frisbee team at UNCG. His name was Fribee Cat. Pronounced like frisbee without the "s". He was constructed of only the cheapest Lion Brand yarn complete with a terrifyingly uneven set of eyes and a mouth.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1l1peQtOizykbAVsnjXQ6ZHq60IFeSZHsDKedbfn_w4JUFZ8nEJ8XJ0xP4W9o7RIVY9orkgX4hHXsIPIq5DNu4d0rJ-YgLn10J5_N7i0AQv1O-xhwvJiGg0DekFoD9v9mlP3ZasByMa9m/s1600/fribee.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1l1peQtOizykbAVsnjXQ6ZHq60IFeSZHsDKedbfn_w4JUFZ8nEJ8XJ0xP4W9o7RIVY9orkgX4hHXsIPIq5DNu4d0rJ-YgLn10J5_N7i0AQv1O-xhwvJiGg0DekFoD9v9mlP3ZasByMa9m/s320/fribee.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Fribee Cat Senior had a habit of showing up in places you didn't expect him. In the cabinet at a party, in a gift box at Christmas- he came to be known as somewhat of a creeper. And if you really look at him he is a little creepy, I don't know what it is.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, it was due to his habit of hiding in places and waiting to be found that we lost him. The original Fribee cat is out there somewhere creeping his heart out. Even though I don't play Ultimate anymore everyone on the team has been requesting another Fribee Cat. Well obviously you could never replace some like Fribee Cat, but fortunately for me his darker complexioned cousin came to town.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGKeFeNIS8WNaRstCTWUY6OK9BbiavV6nNgqT8d7al08dGzzMt8Xo3ZzQejlA4uu0QZnoQqy1NwshFcL_cg_5DBHWQcsVVfmIvZ8Pzng9IbGrHNRodSSthN5TZUxi1MXn64OE3dCeoWWfV/s1600/DSCN1122.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGKeFeNIS8WNaRstCTWUY6OK9BbiavV6nNgqT8d7al08dGzzMt8Xo3ZzQejlA4uu0QZnoQqy1NwshFcL_cg_5DBHWQcsVVfmIvZ8Pzng9IbGrHNRodSSthN5TZUxi1MXn64OE3dCeoWWfV/s320/DSCN1122.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>I tried to mimic my shoddy craftsmanship from the previous version, it didn't take too much effort.Bethisboringhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246562126877373093noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5691619671942088181.post-85007544196957438812011-04-05T17:37:00.000-07:002011-04-05T17:37:16.891-07:00Entrelac: The easiest thing to knit that looks really complicated<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I will be the first one to admit that I secretly (or not so secretly) love when people compliment what I'm knitting, especially other knitters. It's flattering, there is no denying it. Knitting something that looks extremely complicated but is actually really simple is even better. Hence Entrelac. It's seriously just increasing and decreasing. If you're interested in learning how to do this start <a href="http://www.knittingdaily.com/media/p/24498.aspx">here</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This cowl was originally started because I had every intention of learning to knit backwards. Knitting backwards would have really sped up this process, unfortunately I gave up. Think of it like batting left handed, it just feels wrong. Remember when you were learning how to knit and the needles felt heavy and awkward in your hand? Times this by 100 and this is how knitting backwards feels, totally counter intuitive. Maybe I'll try it again sometime, but not for now I'll stick with regular knitting.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Even though I didn't learn to knit backwards I did get a project crossed off my list. A while ago I promised the first person to <a href="http://ibuiltthat.blogspot.com/2011/01/sugar-for-breakfast.html">comment</a> on this post a very special surprise. That lovely person is my Aunt Stefani.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij53SUIh1S87UkMNuicBu77Fq62nKtr8acvJxFyGJg_jc1Di_HYLmE8FQ5lPxWDfui5cen2UT7v9OLtc8FriXLf0zotWswLigdFY8C-S8P3oSf8FGG1HS2nIllunI_AtRS6Fyl_I9-TBdm/s1600/DSCN1108.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij53SUIh1S87UkMNuicBu77Fq62nKtr8acvJxFyGJg_jc1Di_HYLmE8FQ5lPxWDfui5cen2UT7v9OLtc8FriXLf0zotWswLigdFY8C-S8P3oSf8FGG1HS2nIllunI_AtRS6Fyl_I9-TBdm/s320/DSCN1108.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The cowl has two layers as you can see here. One side is entrelac the other stockinette. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Rz0usBCyDbX9ICJfGDSR8lm5wOnB5g4qoudwCLKWy_lRw9HIU3HXDArAV68r8kC6nHb6DKvrXl62-AKrgg5F3v-ILI8KvXmRA5jnGjnLhdJ0HOHm2Bq010pLmHe_UsWaI1jWsOWewu6E/s1600/DSCN1116.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Rz0usBCyDbX9ICJfGDSR8lm5wOnB5g4qoudwCLKWy_lRw9HIU3HXDArAV68r8kC6nHb6DKvrXl62-AKrgg5F3v-ILI8KvXmRA5jnGjnLhdJ0HOHm2Bq010pLmHe_UsWaI1jWsOWewu6E/s320/DSCN1116.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As you can see here it was sewn with a twist in it so both layers are visible at the same time.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I know it's getting to be Spring time so this cowl is knit with a cotton blend to her neck at optimal temperature for necks. Although I am not sure what the optimum neck temperature is I'm sure this cowl will keep it there.</div>Bethisboringhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246562126877373093noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5691619671942088181.post-23261900989100150582011-03-26T06:25:00.000-07:002011-03-26T06:25:15.031-07:00Uh-mer-icaIt's almost, sort of, kind of spring. Sometimes it's 80 degrees and sometimes it's 45. This means people everywhere are driving with their windows down and playing their terrible pop music at much too loud of a volume. What is it about warm weather that makes people want to drive like idiots?<br />
<br />
Aside from driving like idiots another American pastime is grilling highly processed meat products over some kind of heat source and drinking beer flavored <a href="http://www.budlight.com/">water</a>. Which brings me to today's creation. The prompt for today is to create something using water.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2YH3uyIxOaj7sqTIwiOtzenxjhlvZEUNMSLI4f-tQQIgyPh1O38dMCq0bLTHx7c6vODRACEQaJ7PWlS1UlHVjdZCiDiOrCExj42DIlUky2YcixLXDLmYVIJrZrrXDWHZNgbEF9Jsq9-0j/s1600/DSCN1097.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2YH3uyIxOaj7sqTIwiOtzenxjhlvZEUNMSLI4f-tQQIgyPh1O38dMCq0bLTHx7c6vODRACEQaJ7PWlS1UlHVjdZCiDiOrCExj42DIlUky2YcixLXDLmYVIJrZrrXDWHZNgbEF9Jsq9-0j/s320/DSCN1097.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> So I made ice. That's right, ice. I made ice and I'm blogging about it. But wait! It's not just ice, it's AMERICAN ICE! Who needs a tshirt that says Proud to be an American when you can just say it with your beverage coolant?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaLYiV-7CxvOsgeBIXs9hvar7N-jBcSYUiAVPJoV05JhMxqJdHLrdrDNFt6IX85dRprcJbdVozXiyM_Ao-cgLcv_QTerfq-kLXXAvRSfjOWb7Hi5H8qanTWv17dD2c8CIe_GLRfseTK5rB/s1600/DSCN1098.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaLYiV-7CxvOsgeBIXs9hvar7N-jBcSYUiAVPJoV05JhMxqJdHLrdrDNFt6IX85dRprcJbdVozXiyM_Ao-cgLcv_QTerfq-kLXXAvRSfjOWb7Hi5H8qanTWv17dD2c8CIe_GLRfseTK5rB/s320/DSCN1098.JPG" width="240" /></a><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">The only circular buttons I have tried so far. The only reason why these ended up being circular is because I fucked up an edge so badly that it would never resemble a square again. Works for me.</div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">These weren't too big of a hit at the <a href="http://handtohandmarket.blogspot.com/">Hand to Hand</a> - but at least I sold one set. I was absolutely terrified I wouldn't sell a single item. So thank you (all 5 people) for buying something on Saturday. You have done wonders for my self esteem. Especially because those 5 people weren't my Mom. Sick! Next show, shooting for 6 items sold. Go big or go home friends.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Speaking of the craft fair, in the haze of it all it seems that I completely forgot to take pictures. Bad, bad blogger. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">We recently bought a wet saw to make some larger items out of china, maybe some coasters? How about 4 fingers? We'll see how it goes. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Now I can't take credit for the next item at all, but damn isn't this cool?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsY36KN4jHaNMJx4qBwzLOQbRz4fWWWrcU6BuPhqr8zpsFOgvnnBWZyc_b9-w5UkokiRj_wJNG8waXHUPvET2pzCEN3WfKZomroykTUSOg9mnrAOFKCymTM4wUXPs7m-XGXZ1268PyhaGc/s1600/IMGP0362.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsY36KN4jHaNMJx4qBwzLOQbRz4fWWWrcU6BuPhqr8zpsFOgvnnBWZyc_b9-w5UkokiRj_wJNG8waXHUPvET2pzCEN3WfKZomroykTUSOg9mnrAOFKCymTM4wUXPs7m-XGXZ1268PyhaGc/s320/IMGP0362.JPG" width="240" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Tshirt yarn. Made of old cut up Tshirts and hand dyed by this <a href="http://anxietyknits.blogspot.com/">lovely </a>lady. Makes a wonderful and cool (I'm speaking of temperature here but we all know how hip <a href="http://ibuiltthat.blogspot.com/2011/01/winter-colors_14.html">cowls</a> are right now) The only part I can take credit for is vacuuming up the Tshirt snow. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">If you don't know what Tshirt snow is consider yourself lucky. It is a rare phenomena that occurs only when using a rotary cutter to slice Tshirts into strips. It's a bitch to vacuum and gets everywhere. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Next on the list of things I spent way to much time making: Needle Felting Snail Packs. I sold 2! Count em' 2 Snail Packs! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Packaged in the chicest of chic, these fine packs include everything you need to needle felt this ridiculously useless item! But look at their awkward, crooked eyes! Just plucks my heart strings.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
Sorry for the abandoning you the past couple of weeks. It's all because I was getting ready for my first craft show. Footage will be posted shortly and lots of new pictures of what I've been doing are long overdue. Just letting you know that I'm still here, I'm still crafting and I haven't forgotten that this exists.Bethisboringhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246562126877373093noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5691619671942088181.post-20783607105926933522011-03-03T12:01:00.000-08:002011-03-03T12:01:06.514-08:00I have 3 things...1) Lots of unfinished objects laying around the house.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7pgttb40w4xkfxlCuShIcNXirn1ZA8dNximAVV9xCm6rvjG5PF1Ng9ugT9vaD-9V5N1gLcBOGQ21kzhCJHxxmHVw_O2yfBRa1TOJWr5d7d4vpqyNx32zGZNsNUsyP4PzDth0BvmOvbeDd/s1600/DSCN1072.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7pgttb40w4xkfxlCuShIcNXirn1ZA8dNximAVV9xCm6rvjG5PF1Ng9ugT9vaD-9V5N1gLcBOGQ21kzhCJHxxmHVw_O2yfBRa1TOJWr5d7d4vpqyNx32zGZNsNUsyP4PzDth0BvmOvbeDd/s320/DSCN1072.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> These are gloves in some lovely Malabrigo yarn, color lettuce. Five. That seems cruel. After all that studying I was ready for some serious crafting.<br />
<br />
I have been playing around with the buttons for a while now, but I'm still having problems drilling holes in them. Even keeping the drill bit wet and using oil to increase the viscosity it's still a lengthy process. Each hole can take up to 15 minutes to drill and sometimes you get to minute 14 and the button cracks in half. So instead of going through all of this I have found <a href="http://www.themysticalgardenpath.com/servlet/the-15792/100-SilverPlt-Button-Backs/Detail">button shanks</a>.<br />
<br />
I ordered them yesterday so we'll see how they turn out. In the mean time I am busy preparing buttons to put on to the button shanks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8QIPGQTU38ZfxNjVtKz3Ne4o_-FcnhgJECZ77gjOv7wQU1UdR-5N3IoPvWINneUNVcrfhtp7ZYYPG0t8RuBurEYx037emH3WEUm2Fn5nI3GiE8IsrCKcsHU_-RWHfxpKAXW4Xc8zO_jKX/s1600/DSCN1028.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8QIPGQTU38ZfxNjVtKz3Ne4o_-FcnhgJECZ77gjOv7wQU1UdR-5N3IoPvWINneUNVcrfhtp7ZYYPG0t8RuBurEYx037emH3WEUm2Fn5nI3GiE8IsrCKcsHU_-RWHfxpKAXW4Xc8zO_jKX/s320/DSCN1028.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is the plate I started with. I use tile cutters to get smaller pieces.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFCYfMfp1npb0CITnj-a2T9zIHVJDAYC74jzYZMcwclWHdtSQg3x-xfEAvtTn0b2pn2s_w1QGYojXv4wahUTaSCFR81QnQVlurMkt9-EWzG3ZBl6NmKrof5KCA5hJETEp5fGFMahtkp7_C/s1600/DSCN1033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFCYfMfp1npb0CITnj-a2T9zIHVJDAYC74jzYZMcwclWHdtSQg3x-xfEAvtTn0b2pn2s_w1QGYojXv4wahUTaSCFR81QnQVlurMkt9-EWzG3ZBl6NmKrof5KCA5hJETEp5fGFMahtkp7_C/s320/DSCN1033.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As nice as the tile cutters are, it's pretty hit or miss. Certain pieces of china crumble more than others. Luckily this plate is very thick and almost seemed like it wanted to be cut into a square.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The finished products. I love the way the glaze created a border when I smoothed out the edges. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In other news I got a haircut. For a while now I have had what I assume can only be called a mullet. I hadn't realized it had gotten so long.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl7xRJMfFpR_MBXRbiNuI1gl47d88gQKji5vMrJfKyLKU_6xywL5WZFGnNcdy-0MiVi2bSGItw_rqtHA0NxsUEbcREkckGlPt7RoQ0uo1rxI5vlb0JIxKlgEtFSHlzDfw9nXjY5trxYQcb/s1600/DSCN1038.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl7xRJMfFpR_MBXRbiNuI1gl47d88gQKji5vMrJfKyLKU_6xywL5WZFGnNcdy-0MiVi2bSGItw_rqtHA0NxsUEbcREkckGlPt7RoQ0uo1rxI5vlb0JIxKlgEtFSHlzDfw9nXjY5trxYQcb/s320/DSCN1038.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So long in fact that I deemed it necessary to put it into a ponytail and then cut it. I think it would make a wonderful Christmas ornament. Or a terrifying Christmas ornament. This is one for the scrapbook folks.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Ya'll have to keep me in check, I can't see back there!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
You can only make two things with water: ice and steam.<br />
<br />
So instead I used this as an excuse to add yet another pet to our home. Meet Tuna, full name Tuna F. Stick. The F of course stands for Fish.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNUesqtpoCudMTPrYpX4FATyb09wSsXXQMsEry6KhHYiZT4UDMIRt2sbrz8Nd6K4L2x_zNicdz_u9kwjEfZFgjI3C8LsZTyYXPuDRa_da87qgiSMgv1GxpXd18spfGNYzWCQUKoOud7jfJ/s1600/DSCN1010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNUesqtpoCudMTPrYpX4FATyb09wSsXXQMsEry6KhHYiZT4UDMIRt2sbrz8Nd6K4L2x_zNicdz_u9kwjEfZFgjI3C8LsZTyYXPuDRa_da87qgiSMgv1GxpXd18spfGNYzWCQUKoOud7jfJ/s320/DSCN1010.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> He is a betta with a bit of an attitude problem. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSkWKnZ574GJNzjJ2ZTEBAUX-5QQMsGwBmB2_xcy9vEL1Vcg8N9OTC-1fiQIXE461a7scaWDE0unS6u-FeJuvltD4i99tSDRImlNmz0T8OHgRwRbLSradrdtWA5foGPlKCVFRNLj8iICwe/s1600/DSCN1008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSkWKnZ574GJNzjJ2ZTEBAUX-5QQMsGwBmB2_xcy9vEL1Vcg8N9OTC-1fiQIXE461a7scaWDE0unS6u-FeJuvltD4i99tSDRImlNmz0T8OHgRwRbLSradrdtWA5foGPlKCVFRNLj8iICwe/s320/DSCN1008.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
Tuna is the second try at owning a betta in the past week. Apparently if it's too cold in the house, the fish's water will be too. Unfortunately, he died before he could be named. We gave him back to the sea in a proper burial ceremony. (We flushed the dude)<br />
<br />
But now it's smooth sailing with Tuna and I. He's got a tank heater, bamboo and all the fish food he could imagine. Not to mention I kept the receipt so if this one bites the bullet I'm getting my money back.<br />
<br />

In other words, I have gone crane crazy folks. My friend <a href="http://findandtrust.tumblr.com/">Tristin</a> is an origami genius and was so kind to share some of her knowledge with me. It resulted in this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBIwgxrCKAlAC0ZJsILtMAX3aTXXQf84x6dtleCCMyydjHCMxX0hCq0wDXZdpoA3FSxz6brU1vqu5S08ICK0H-2o42lSGAGKcaw2i13qP0aXaxYDHhsKa-irnTaZX7A89NCcz2SQ9iovHp/s1600/DSCN0969.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBIwgxrCKAlAC0ZJsILtMAX3aTXXQf84x6dtleCCMyydjHCMxX0hCq0wDXZdpoA3FSxz6brU1vqu5S08ICK0H-2o42lSGAGKcaw2i13qP0aXaxYDHhsKa-irnTaZX7A89NCcz2SQ9iovHp/s320/DSCN0969.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">A crane mobile!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div>By the end of the evening we had made two of these beauties with about 10 cranes each. They are currently hanging out by the window catching what little light is coming through on this cold, rainy day.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwNDdfy-_dOmMK-_jUrmVR3mXcERtgSssxUb-C_Pv96F-xWsqU8dyDjLKroagJJxkfSQIx1tGYvBJisnTY_iKKcAgH0kS-XK8a5kZBOtUW5Hic7KR8a2Z1vn-QdqKnxiQsvDrhAqiVGT3E/s1600/DSCN0981.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwNDdfy-_dOmMK-_jUrmVR3mXcERtgSssxUb-C_Pv96F-xWsqU8dyDjLKroagJJxkfSQIx1tGYvBJisnTY_iKKcAgH0kS-XK8a5kZBOtUW5Hic7KR8a2Z1vn-QdqKnxiQsvDrhAqiVGT3E/s320/DSCN0981.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">First time making origami? Try <a href="http://en.origami-club.com/traditional/crane/index.html">this</a> site. They have both a diagram and animated instructions which makes it much easier to see what is actually happening. All you need is a square sheet of paper to make a crane, any size will do. If you're going to get really fancy they have origami specific paper. This is one of my favorite papers in my stash.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

It comes from an old joke that Amanda told me when we first met. It goes like this.<br />
<br />
A man is backpacking through Ireland. He walks into a small town and decides to have a drink and rest his feet for a bit. He goes into a bar and orders a whiskey. As he is sipping his drink the bartender leans over and asks him "Hey did you walk into town on the that little brick road?". The backpacker replies "Yes, I did". The bartender says "I built that road. But do they call me Shannon the road builder? No." Then the bartender asks the backpacker "did you walk across the stone bridge on your way into town?" "Yes I did" the backpacker says. The bartender then says "I built that bridge. But do they call me Shannon the bridge builder? No." Then the bartender asks the backpacker "did you see the big stone house next to the bar? I built that house but do they call me shannon the housebuilder? No. But you fuck one sheep..."<br />
<br />
Ever since then it has been a running joke between us. "I built that" can apply to a variety of things. Such as a particularly stinky fart, getting an A on a paper or making dinner. But more often then not it applies to a handmade item that we are particularly proud of. I wanted that to be the theme of this blog, something that I was proud of. So far so good.<br />
<br />
One thing that I am particularly proud of is this cowl. It's the first thing I've ever sold. It's made especially for a very special friend who lives in the very cold place of DC.<br />

These buttons are made from pieces of broken china that have had the Dremel taken to them to soften the edges a bit. I'm hoping because these are"upcycled" and thats all the rage these days people will want to pay exorbitant amounts of money for these things. But really, I think these buttons are awesome and would look great on some convertible mittens.<br />

For something so outdated why in the world am I receiving one all the time? I never know what to do with the thing. I'm sure as hell not going to look up a phone number in it when it would take me less time to look up 6 phone numbers on the internet. I just received another phonebook on my front porch and felt like I had to do something other than recycle it. <br />
<div><br />
</div><div>Day 8. Take an old book and transform it into something new. </div><div><br />
</div><div>How convenient that I received yet another phonebook on the same day. So I did something I've never tried before. Origami. Folding paper should be pretty easy right? If you will remember my last experience with <a href="http://ibuiltthat.blogspot.com/2011/01/killing-trees-in-name-of-art.html">paper</a> didn't go very well so I was determined to make something remotely interesting this time.</div><div><br />
</div><div>My first try was this little paper box. You can't open it once it's closed so I have no idea why anyone would actually make this box.<br />
<br />
Because the phone book pages aren't square I cut each sheet into a 6 x 6 square and followed these <a href="http://www.origami-instructions.com/easy-origami-cube.html">instructions</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd8UK4gMO6gdolGWTmh5iTgWnW7vQgb3dgIcMGr9nfpAIjwxTjpDXp2XQo21Z1t7p3zJdIrs92AYfnAJSXQXV8Z2NDtL3JjkRsT-E3_Gw5OArYnvAvnf9b1HtRo30c4M5dKbDXQtwiAMbg/s1600/DSCN0935.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd8UK4gMO6gdolGWTmh5iTgWnW7vQgb3dgIcMGr9nfpAIjwxTjpDXp2XQo21Z1t7p3zJdIrs92AYfnAJSXQXV8Z2NDtL3JjkRsT-E3_Gw5OArYnvAvnf9b1HtRo30c4M5dKbDXQtwiAMbg/s320/DSCN0935.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">6 of these later and I started to get the hang of it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I made some other cool stuff too. </div><div>So what have we learned today folks? The next time you receive this devastatingly huge waste of paper on your doorstep make something else completely useless out of it. At least it will be cuter than a phonebook.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Also <a href="http://www.yellowpagesgoesgreen.org/opt-out.php">opt out</a> of getting your phonebook completely and then you won't have a million tiny paper boxes floating around your house and you can save a tree or two. If that's what you're in to.</div>Bethisboringhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246562126877373093noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5691619671942088181.post-38093193953926545952011-01-26T16:17:00.000-08:002011-01-26T16:18:08.559-08:00Mr. BusyAs a kid I probably spent a little too much time reading. I can remember one of the first book series I actually read was BOB books. Pretty typical "learn to read" stuff. My world was turned around when someone got me a set of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Men">Mr. Men</a> books. These books are still hilarious to me. Reading Mr. Rude, who has a French accent I might add, gets me rolling every time.<br />
<div><br />
</div><div>Lately I have been seeing lots of lame printed tee's with Mr. Grumpy or Little Miss Perfect on them. There is nothing lamer than t shirts with things screen printed on them, yet it seems everyone loves these things. I'm talking about the camouflage ones with the phrase "Hah! You Can't See Me Now!" on them. Or a 4 year old wearing a pink t shirt that says "I <3 My BFF!!" Somehow a whole generation of people have become so lazy that expressing themselves with their clothing style is out of the question. Now we just print "clever" statements on t shirts and consider it self expression. Whatever happened to painting your finger nails black and putting on too much eyeliner?<br />
<br />
Which brings me to today's project. The prompt read: make a stencil and use it in your work today. Having never made a stencil, seeing that I am neither an anarchist or a seventeen year old boy, this was all new to me and took quite a great deal of internet perusing.<br />
<br />
Here are all the supplies that I used in the process.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk95JATodNdfMSGUr6ZNKLLR-rR0NoOezIvMVlu8-arQEaqIyVBQ_s-7HvasLfqEOgT0WgO7L9JDtTatMMd-qdnaA2JkamJkWtGBBoTO4OFCdt2pAU19nNPdRJQ-P9jHcNTu2fizHEladQ/s1600/004+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk95JATodNdfMSGUr6ZNKLLR-rR0NoOezIvMVlu8-arQEaqIyVBQ_s-7HvasLfqEOgT0WgO7L9JDtTatMMd-qdnaA2JkamJkWtGBBoTO4OFCdt2pAU19nNPdRJQ-P9jHcNTu2fizHEladQ/s320/004+%25282%2529.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">An exacto knife, some plastic dividers and spray paint.</div><br />
I found a new photo editing software, <a href="http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/">gimp</a>. It has features similar to Photoshop and it's free! I used it to up the contrast on this image and make it black and white.<br />
From this:<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR4SjWuaGfhhgi8EQSebbj0RxDnoZn6z-uQuAab_phqOgTcwsAG9dP5pMUvbcuErDc5u7EpYCCiP3nEYQAx4EmlkIC5E4WF7IVEeeIjIng_krqXefcrzVLZYaLiqmOeK4XGI_xJzovbVTn/s1600/MrBusy1.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR4SjWuaGfhhgi8EQSebbj0RxDnoZn6z-uQuAab_phqOgTcwsAG9dP5pMUvbcuErDc5u7EpYCCiP3nEYQAx4EmlkIC5E4WF7IVEeeIjIng_krqXefcrzVLZYaLiqmOeK4XGI_xJzovbVTn/s1600/MrBusy1.gif" /></a><br />
to this: <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtjYw-Ua74YnpT2TnFdeAezFNkr1Fg13FfmGPL-WcXXQooWke7BGImuQQfHmtM7f8yzQsyY8dK5Yd9824Dd2eAREqRXS9PKTk5EO7Z4hQ5bzeb128FU07xZOzsfNK-Q_yiL7pUwp1TM2SO/s1600/mr.bust.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtjYw-Ua74YnpT2TnFdeAezFNkr1Fg13FfmGPL-WcXXQooWke7BGImuQQfHmtM7f8yzQsyY8dK5Yd9824Dd2eAREqRXS9PKTk5EO7Z4hQ5bzeb128FU07xZOzsfNK-Q_yiL7pUwp1TM2SO/s200/mr.bust.gif" style="cursor: move;" width="150" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
After spending way too long doing that, I printed it out and stapled it on to a plastic divider. I used an exacto knife to cut out the outline. It took me two times to get it right because I got a little knife happy. It's harder than it looks! Those anarchist kids have some steady hands.<br />
<br />
When I finally got it right it looked like this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmjz71h5Nws5GROzBDpiZKjFvz8xmI3eMjdmZC6XdvLyQ5kMGVHaqHoHVD38ES7lUEdaDpNHLpojVDVAkV-pJwBw1A_6a_W4iYZOeOYqoewxCUZDua5kuJbuyq7_57o8p04BAzOlAuaEoa/s1600/007+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmjz71h5Nws5GROzBDpiZKjFvz8xmI3eMjdmZC6XdvLyQ5kMGVHaqHoHVD38ES7lUEdaDpNHLpojVDVAkV-pJwBw1A_6a_W4iYZOeOYqoewxCUZDua5kuJbuyq7_57o8p04BAzOlAuaEoa/s320/007+%25282%2529.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
I tried it out on a piece of cardboard before abusing the sidewalks of Glenwood.<br />

Now it's cabbage all the time. Green cabbage, red cabbage- we've got cabbage coming out of our ears over here. Particularly in the winter time. Potatoes, carrots, cabbage and squash get old after a few months of the same old recipes so it's time to try out something new.<br />
<br />
Fortunately for me Day 6's prompt was: Use the first fruit or vegetable you find to work with.<br />
So obviously, I made sure cabbage was the first thing I saw when I walked in the kitchen. I will do anything to get rid of all this cabbage. Except buy less. Every week I go to the <a href="http://www.localharvest.org/dodge-lodge-farm-M12077">Downtown Farm Market</a> and every week I return with another head of cabbage. I secretly enjoy forcing <a href="http://anxietyknits.blogspot.com/">Amanda</a> to eat all kind of weird cabbage creations, I believe cabbage burritos were on the menu once.<br />
<br />
So it was time for a new recipe. I picked a soup since the weather has been so cold and our house hasn't been warmer than 55 degrees since November. The <a href="http://www.theppk.com/2010/12/chickpea-rice-soup-with-cabbage/">Post Punk Kitchen</a> has never let me down before, they have all kinds of yummy vegan recipes with ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen. For this recipe, Chickpea Rice Soup with Cabbage I had all the ingredients just laying in my pantry. Except for fresh dill. It's the middle of winter folks, dried will do just fine.<br />
<br />
After getting off work I was ravenous and waiting for the carrots to get soft was torture. The kitchen was so cold the boiling soup looked like it was putting off smoke, not just steam.<br />

The only thing that I have built this week is a very high fever. But before I caught the plague I was quite a busy beaver. Day 5's prompt was to make something out of a collection that you have lying around your house. I try to make it a point to not keep a bunch of stuff around, unless it's crafting supplies. Somehow the craft table in my dining room has slowly grown outward and consumed my entire dining room. We have bins upon bins of yarn, unspun wool and completely unprocessed fleeces but I figured branching out and using something other than fiber wouldn't kill me.<br />
<br />
Although jellybeans are not something I really collect, they're more like something I just happened to have a lot of, and I used them to make a very yummy creation. I find nothing more satisfying than taking a handful of jellybeans and sorting them into piles and making flavor combinations. It's like cooking dessert but a lot faster. Every year I get one of those gigantic containers that has every flavor imaginable, although not <a href="http://www.jellybelly.com/Shop/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=98678">boogers</a> I was disappointed to find. After eating countless juicy pears (which is by far the best flavor) I apparently still had food on my brain and made this delicious breakfast of a fried egg, banana and fresh, crusty toast with butter.<br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here you can see the vast sea of jellybeans from which I had to choose from.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
Unfortunately making this meant that I had to touch every single one of the jelly beans. This is very unfortunate for anyone else who wants any jellybeans in my house.<br />
<br />
I also finished another present for one of my Facebook <a href="http://ibuiltthat.blogspot.com/2011/01/step-1-baby-chickens-and-beginnings.html">friends</a>. <br />
<br />

<br />
This is a needle felted flower with a bendable stem for my friend Katherine. She has known me since I was but a wee crafter making lots of terrible pot holders and paintings for the refrigerator. I hope that this doesn't end up in the same drawer.<br />
<br />
On a completely unrelated note, I'm dying for some comments over here folks. In an effort to blackmail people into commenting on my blog I've decided that the first person to comment on this post will get a VERY special handmade treat from me. Don't be shy ya'll.Bethisboringhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246562126877373093noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5691619671942088181.post-59511773128299651772011-01-15T14:00:00.000-08:002011-01-15T14:00:01.750-08:00People Who Can't DriveNormally people who can't drive are the source of much aggravation for me. If you have ever driven with me you know how serious my case of road rage is. Hell, if you have ever ridden a bike with me you know how easy it is for me to lose my temper with cars. But that's a story for another post. <br />
<br />
The prompt for today: Take a 5 minute walk and use something you find while walking to inspire your creation. So I walked to school, something I normally don't do simply because it takes too long. Walking to class takes around 15 minutes and riding my bike takes roughly 2, not to mention the view on Lee Street isn't exactly the best. That is if you prefer not to see the homeless man with the cart's ass. You know exactly what I'm talking about if you've ever walked down Lee St.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix8l3sLuHlTU-9IcyBFsTeus0rndQFz698fR9iVdhKvBTTglV4Ba1Nb0Q2nxx_T8MOwLGMyCj4WO8PwUPL1_-bkkPZleIvnjMmHhQCwbVbyrnIqawonyQqM9Fsvuyk5EHv5w5MQjXBBtpV/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix8l3sLuHlTU-9IcyBFsTeus0rndQFz698fR9iVdhKvBTTglV4Ba1Nb0Q2nxx_T8MOwLGMyCj4WO8PwUPL1_-bkkPZleIvnjMmHhQCwbVbyrnIqawonyQqM9Fsvuyk5EHv5w5MQjXBBtpV/s320/001.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>I found an imprint some asshole left when they drove on to the sidewalk. Normally this would infuriate me, probably a little too much if I'm being honest. I found it at the intersection of Aycock and Spring Garden, prime territory for college boys with too much testosterone to drive their gas guzzling SUVs.<br />
<br />
It inspired this knit swatch:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXGUMxQcW8dA_HGdVFWn_9mjn7U33rTfFebkjrTL5O5Kb10egP_dKO8sWL2eX6N3XkMbkfP_ZuE3S5Ufg5s6oMQhZNzUu8DW1R869BxNQ5kh5P9O0XPInbOAuuqNI7emcCxcjHhvu4RbrL/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXGUMxQcW8dA_HGdVFWn_9mjn7U33rTfFebkjrTL5O5Kb10egP_dKO8sWL2eX6N3XkMbkfP_ZuE3S5Ufg5s6oMQhZNzUu8DW1R869BxNQ5kh5P9O0XPInbOAuuqNI7emcCxcjHhvu4RbrL/s320/003.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I only used knits and purls to establish this pattern. Having never designed my own swatch before, this was actually quite a challenge for me. To help me visualize what the swatch would look like when it was complete I used this <a href="http://jacquie.typepad.com/Charts/knitChart.htm">program</a>. It's a design your own chart program that was really easy to use and let me save the chart when I was finished - something I noticed other websites didn't allow me to do. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguFF9ggG2giHywNaOKSa8DPWXEwdMm0CQKuD4yglZG4Mev7FhdNfkI5gL0SGqIVRV6cT5vK0KFtfx4JGWuU-rlzdWHC5KlcwCdTnVn9KX_sYayDrGlx9Wu65g1t44m-VQXYYWW_BOMeBLc/s1600/001+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguFF9ggG2giHywNaOKSa8DPWXEwdMm0CQKuD4yglZG4Mev7FhdNfkI5gL0SGqIVRV6cT5vK0KFtfx4JGWuU-rlzdWHC5KlcwCdTnVn9KX_sYayDrGlx9Wu65g1t44m-VQXYYWW_BOMeBLc/s320/001+%25282%2529.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm pretty please with how it turned out. Not that it's a pattern I'll actually ever use, that is of course unless someone asks me for a sweater that looks like it's been driven on. Until that day (which would be a really weird day) it will be the first swatch I ever knit without a pattern.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So here's to you asshole that drove on the sidewalk. Thanks for inspiring my project today and I hope you didn't kill anyone when you were sliding around Greensboro in your overly sized vehicle.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div>Bethisboringhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246562126877373093noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5691619671942088181.post-57441727491372638812011-01-14T12:35:00.000-08:002011-01-14T12:35:20.143-08:00Winter ColorsIn North Carolina autumn is beautiful. There is no doubting it. People make a yearly pilgrimage to the mountains just to see the leaves change and breath the air that is never as crisp as it is during the fall. Unfortunately, it's not autumn anymore. All the leaves have fallen off and the world is a dreary smear of brown and grey. That is until it snows. Then the world is beautiful for the fifteen minutes before the snow plow rolls through and turns the snow black.<br />
<br />
Which brings me to my point. I need some color in the middle of the winter. I also need my neck to be warm and look really fucking cute, so I knit this lovely cowl. Made of bulky weight wool and hand dyed, I'm extremely pleased with the kelly green against my pasty white skin.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWcl2n7E3JgyqeB6rso5aGpxsKzDLscuzsNSHiA_olgQQJ3BMgEp_u16_PSdFfVFHdD5AJov8f503INgMWMJYXTvXpeE2rr1dy8NZhLnPWNlmodSkb8LH9YCCAo9C2iHCbCG2jPLQf4W-P/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWcl2n7E3JgyqeB6rso5aGpxsKzDLscuzsNSHiA_olgQQJ3BMgEp_u16_PSdFfVFHdD5AJov8f503INgMWMJYXTvXpeE2rr1dy8NZhLnPWNlmodSkb8LH9YCCAo9C2iHCbCG2jPLQf4W-P/s320/007.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Chunky cowls are totally hip right now. Hipsters everywhere are crashing their fixed gear bicycles because they are unable to see over their huge cowls that were knit with size 22 needles and <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/marian-2">bulky</a> yarn. Thankfully, I will be able to see over this cowl and will only crash my bike because of less hip reasons. Like my pants being too tight to get my leg over the handlebars to do <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muJ6Q14-6kk">this</a>. What a tragedy.<br />
<br />
The pattern is called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/braidheart">braidheart</a> which is funny enough to make we want to knit it simply for the name. It's really just a short scarf with some buttons. Why didn't I think of that?<br />
<br />
The buttons were made by my lovely <a href="http://anxietyknits.blogspot.com/">Amanda</a> using pieces of broken china. Upcycled to the max, adorable and soon to be available on her <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/anxietyknits?ref=seller_info">Etsy</a>, they're a huge pain in the ass to make and release god knows what kind of carcinogen dust into the air.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">They are definitely worth it.</div><br />

Who does that? Who sits down and says let me make something that a third grader could do in fifteen minutes and make it incredibly difficult? Apparently I do.<br />
<br />
I ended up making this boat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZcxraFm84AZman1kaW0KfPS-BRcQHwmzC2RYemHRlwoebZ_DtL0zikZWnWwCo_4EKVNErwA5CFiminNpqbFEeWf3PgTGLVbS3Rwwfv4d7eq54oWrDksW9akHjNe-7ZqOmhGhYF8wprvgh/s1600/061.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZcxraFm84AZman1kaW0KfPS-BRcQHwmzC2RYemHRlwoebZ_DtL0zikZWnWwCo_4EKVNErwA5CFiminNpqbFEeWf3PgTGLVbS3Rwwfv4d7eq54oWrDksW9akHjNe-7ZqOmhGhYF8wprvgh/s320/061.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It doesn't look like much but somehow this POS took me an hour to make. How ridiculous. I just kept getting so frustrated that I couldn't just use some damn scotch tape. It's made out of two index cards. About 8 more ended up in the recycling bin. I went through about 4 different ideas before I settled on the boat. A hot dog, an ice cream cone, and a house all to end up with this boat. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">School started this week which means my winter craft fest is coming to an end. I would love to say that I will be able to continue making things at the same rate that I have been but I know it's just not realistic. First class of the semester and I was 30 minutes late. Thats completely appropriate for my last semester right? I think so even if my professor didn't seem to.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I still have three more people to gift something handmade to and I'd really like to get it done within the next two weeks so lets hope that school doesn't get in the way of life.</div>Bethisboringhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246562126877373093noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5691619671942088181.post-89942769270197044992011-01-12T12:00:00.000-08:002011-01-12T12:00:04.706-08:00White People Love Sweater PartiesWhich is why every year the fribee girls have an ugly Christmas sweater party, the most white thing you can possibly do other than wearing Ray Ban <a href="http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2009/12/22/130-ray-ban-wayfarers/">Wayfarers</a>. Extra points are given to the person wearing both at the same time. This annual party is where I met my lovely friend Scooze and it's also where I got the inspiration for today's creation.<br />

A tiny beer sweater. What could be more pretentious?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2XhrwLwIn7Td9JnEVCRzDU8tBaQf6t9coO5Q0PzXjpeZJCFSikXF_znLCKA462S4FpfwVAyBKuLY-UkZX22HsEf8Jkdm6eUJAll7uapTA2lppj4ZSCFBDGZtYSZMUVjH0CFLMUrSQjasg/s1600/046.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2XhrwLwIn7Td9JnEVCRzDU8tBaQf6t9coO5Q0PzXjpeZJCFSikXF_znLCKA462S4FpfwVAyBKuLY-UkZX22HsEf8Jkdm6eUJAll7uapTA2lppj4ZSCFBDGZtYSZMUVjH0CFLMUrSQjasg/s320/046.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Not only is it a sweater, it's a turtle neck- the most pretentious of all sweaters. It has a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-beer-sweater">Raglan</a> sleeve, which means that the sweater is all worked in the round as opposed to sewing the sleeves in.<br />
<br />
The prompt for today was to create something based on my favorite animal. Scooze is definitely my favorite party animal. He's the kind of gentleman that can pound two Four Lokos before you've finished sipping your overpriced <a href="http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/01/24/23-microbreweries/">microbrew</a>. Which is why he deserves a beverage sweater. You can't expect a champion of his caliber to drink warm, underdressed and unpretentious beer.Bethisboringhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07246562126877373093noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5691619671942088181.post-87781374281869141662011-01-11T14:27:00.000-08:002011-01-11T14:27:23.354-08:00Step 1: Baby Chickens and Beginnings<div><br />
</div>So I've decided to start blogging. We'll see how long this lasts, but I need something to be accountable to. I have been reading this really neat <a href="http://makesomething365.blogspot.com/">blog</a> lately and finally broke down and bought the book that is written by the same guy. The whole idea is to make something every day, big or small. It comes with different prompts for each day - for example the first day is to "Make something that fits in the palm of your hand using only the materials in your immediate environment". As I'm reading through the book I'm noticing that it has a lot of stipulations like that. Using only paper, using only your breakfast, work only with what's in your pockets, etc... I have a bad habit of getting stuck on something and wearing it out. I'll be so excited about a knitting project that I'll knit until my fingers fall off or I'll be so amped up about a color that <a href="http://anxietyknits.blogspot.com/">Amanda</a> has made that I'll needle felt all night. I need to focus that excitement into something different, something not in my comfort zone.<br />
<div><br />
<div> I'm already excited about how this new project I've undertaken is making me look at things. All of the sudden everything has the potential to be something else, and not just wool!<br />
<div><br />
</div><div>How awesome right? Right.</div><div><br />
</div><div>So day one. To get me started I said that the first five people in comment on my Facebook status would get something handmade. Second to comment was my childhood friend Madeline. I grew up 2 houses down from her and I was always over at her house getting in to some kind of trouble. She's the youngest in a family of 4 older girls so I made her this needle felted egg, inside is a baby chicken with little wire feet. Madeline is a sucker for cute things, so I thought this pretty much useless (though adorable) item wouldn't be wasted on her.<br />
